A Note From the Anti- Bullying Specialist

Parents and Friends:

Welcome.  We’re off to a great start at Langston Hughes and are making every effort to ensure that your children enjoy a safe and positive learning experience this school year.

Our school places emphasis on respect- respect for self, others, property and those in authority. Through daily repetition of the Respect Pledge, daily announcements of a “word of wisdom”, weekly class council, classroom presentations, character education assemblies and incentive trips, students are encouraged to practice the Golden Rule which is to treat others the way they want to be treated.

All staff members work very hard to ensure that their classrooms are caring communities in which every student is treated with high regard. Please know that continuous effort is made to implement strategies when necessary to  maintain a positive school climate.

We know that you remind your children to practice respectful behaviors: to be kind and courteous and to use polite language.  Thank you.

As always, the goal is for our school  to be the very  best place to learn where we help our students “Believe, Achieve and Succeed".

Have a rewarding school year!
Carlis Benjamin

The East Orange School District’s Anti-Bullying Policy

The board of education prohibits acts of harassment, intimidation, or bullying of a student. A safe and civil environment in school is necessary for students to learn and achieve high academic standards. Harassment, intimidation, or bullying, like other disruptive or violent behaviors, is conduct that disrupts both a student’s ability to learn and a school’s ability to educate its pupils in a safe and disciplined environment. Since students learn by example, school administrators, faculty, staff and volunteers should be commended for demonstrating appropriate behavior, treating others with civility and respect, and refusing to tolerate harassment, intimidation, or bullying.
